Kokrajhar: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) –Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Gana Suruksha Party (GSP) led by Pramod Boro has won the composite floor test of the 4th executive Council of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) today.
The UPPL-BJP-GSP alliance got the support of 22 members proving its strength in the 40 members House against the opposition BPF’s 16. The floor test to show strength was done through the raising of hands. All the 22 members of the UPPL, BJP and GSP raised their hands in support of Pramod Boro.
The BJP-UPPL-GSP alliance was formed on December 15 and UPPL president Promod Boro was sworn-in and appointed as the Chief executive member and Gobindo Basumatary also of UPPL as his deputy.
The House witness uproar with the Bodoland People’s Front led by Hagrama Mohilary carried out an intense protest against the proceeding by the protem speaker Katiram Boro for about 20 minutes forcing the protem Speaker to adjourn the House for 10 minutes. The BPF members chanted slogans, displayed play cards in an attempt to disrupt the voting process. The newly elected members also took oath of office which was administered by the pro-tem Speaker. The BPF has demanded a ballot vote which was turned down.
The “Composite Floor Test” was held after the Gauhati High Court on December 22 ordered for a confidence motion on or before December 26. The High Court order came following a challenge petition filed by BPF which emerged as the single largest party with 17 seats in the 40 members Council. The BPF strength has now reduced to 16 after an elected member from Jamduar constituency Reoreoa Narzihary joined the BJP. The BJP which won 9 seats have increased to 11 after it roped in the lone Congress winner from Srirampur constituency Sajal Kumar Singha and another one from BPF Reoreoa Narzihary. The UPPL won 12 seats while the GSP won 1.
Later speaking to Reporters, Pramod Boro termed it victory of people. He promises to work for good governance, all round development of the people. ‘We will work for peace and prosperity and all round development and good governance to the people, Boro said.
“We will take strong steps against corruption and there will be no compromise on corruption. Corruption is our main enemy and we are here to fight it, Boro said.
BPF president and former chief of BTC refused to accept the composite floor test result and said he will challenged it in the Court. “The proceedings were not done as per Gauhati High Court order. The speaker did not follow the guidelines. The procedures were incomplete. We will challenge it in the Court, Mohilary said.
