Samba Railway Station in Jammu Division to get Freight Terminal soon

In a major step to boost industries in Jammu and Kashmir, the Samba Railway Station in Jammu Division will soon have a Freight Terminal- the first of its kind in the state. 

A team led by Chief Transport Planning Manager (CTPM) Devendra Singh today visited the Samba Railway Station. 

The team took stock of the existing facilities besides assessing the requirement for infrastructure to operate the Freight Terminal for facilitating easy and cheaper transportation of trade goods, raw material and finished goods to benefit the traders and industrialists.  

Initially, the terminal will have the capacity to handle the movement of two to five cargo trains per day in and out. 

The Trains would have the capacity to move 6000 to 9000 Metric Tonnes of goods per day. 

An on the spot meeting was also held with the local unit holders (industrialists), who demanded for making early provision of such facility as most of the raw material is brought from outside the state.
