Adulteration will be made ‘Cognizable Offense’ in state

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that an intensive campaign will be launched in the state to prevent manufacturing and sale of all types of adulterated items, so that pure materials can be made available to the people as well as  to instill a sense of fear among the adulterators to stop them from manufacturing aduletrated items. For this, adulteration will be made a “Cognizable Offense” in the state and necessary amendments will be made in the existing law, he added.

Chief Minister Chouhan was reviewing the action being taken in the state under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, Regulation 2011 at Mantralaya  today. Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, DGP Vivek Johri, Additional Chief Secretary Home Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and all officers concerned were present at the meeting.

Conduct probe constantly and take action

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that investigation should be done by taking samples of milk and milk products, sweets, other food items continuously in the state and action be taken. Intensive action should be taken on the occasion of festivals. Playing with public health will not be tolerated at all, he added.

4048 samples collected

During the review, it was informed that 4048 samples of different food items were taken in the state in the last three months. Similarly, 4917 inspections of food traders were conducted and 293 notices for improvement were issued. As many as 2020 samples of milk and milk products were collected.

About 20 lakh spurious items confiscated

During the inspections, spurious items worth Rs. 27 lakh 94 thousand have been seized which include spurious ghee, cookies, chilli-spices, beverages, vegetable ghee, edible oil, adulterant (chemical used to make spurious ghee). 

Complaints can be lodged on Online Portal

Online portal is being operated by the Government of India to lodge complaints about adulteration in food items etc. So far, 220 complaints were filed from the state this year, out of which 206 complaints have been resolved.

 ‘Clean Street Food Hub’, 56 shops area of Indore certified

The “Clean Street Food Hub” scheme is being implemented by the Food, Safety and Standards Authority, Government of India, under which street food selling areas are certified. The 56 shops area, located in Indore has been certified under the scheme. Similarly, civil work is underway at Shahpura Lake, Bhopal as well as Ghantaghar Chowpati area of Ujjain and training related to Sarafa Bazar, Indore has been completed.
