Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday hit out at Punjab Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi and said he should be arrested for breaching prime minister Narendra Modi’s security. He also termed the security lapse as a well-planned conspiracy and said it was only known to the Punjab Police. Addressing a press conference, the Assam CM said, “It is my demand that the Punjab CM should be arrested for conspiracy to assassinate PM Modi. At the same time, it was a well-planned conspiracy and the Punjab Police knew all about it. “
CM Sarma questioned how the protesters came to know that the Prime Minister was travelling by road. Sarma said, “The incident took place just 10 km from the Pakistan-Punjab border. That is, the drone was in the missile range. The conspiracy was hatched on January 2 without providing security despite getting details. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also attacked Congress leaders for their shocking statements on the PM’s security violations. Harish Rawat said the bomb did not explode, says Assam Chief Minister. Sidhu called it a play. Somebody said there was no stone pelting.
The Congress high command is also part of the conspiracy. In a major controversy ahead of the Punjab elections, PM Modi was forced to skip the Ferozepur rally on Wednesday as his security was compromised after he reached the state. The problem started when the PM had decided to go to the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Hussainwala by road instead of by air due to bad weather. According to the Home Ministry, a major lapse was observed in the PM’s security as his convoy was staying for 15-20 minutes, about 30 km from the destination due to road jams.
