Darrang SP reviewes anti poaching measures in Orang National Park

MANGALDAI : Darrang Superintendent of Police, Sushanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized intensifying the anti poaching joint security vigil mechanism of Police and forest guards along the borders of the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve. Superintendent of Police Sarma was talking to the members of the local scribes body Mangaldai Media Circle on January 23 afternoon at the forest during his visit to review the anti poaching security measures after the recent rhino poaching incident in Kaziranga. ” I have come to know from the previous history that rhinos in Orang becomes more vulnerable to poaching just after a similar poaching incident in Kaziranga. So we need to be prepared to thwart any possible poaching threat with joint efforts of police and forest security guards by intensifying the vigilance and monitoring mechanism along the borders and the surrounding water ways.”, said, Sarma . ” Our joint anti poaching security measures in Park have been successful over the years as there is no report of any rhino poaching incident since 2018. I am hopeful that we will be able to maintain this encouraging record in the coming future too. ” , he maintained.

The SP also sought help from the local media fraternity in ways of first hand news sharing of possible poaching threats and boost the moral of the hard working security staff through balanced reporting. ” I think no more service is tougher than protection of forests disconnected from the family and mainstream society for long . The media can play a pivotal role in boosting the moral of the people in the service through some positive reporting.” , Superintendent of Police Sarma observed. He also handed over a bundle of face masks and hands sanitizer bottles provided by Mangaldai Media Circle to the forest staff of the National Park. Earlier forest official Pranjit Deka and others briefed Superintendent of Police about the present anti poaching security scenario. The visit of the Superintendent of Police to the National Park coincided with the visit of the members of the Mangaldai Media Circle as a part of their ” Our nature, our healthy future ” mission for nature conservation at this time of COVID pandemics searching for fresh oxygen.
