GUWAHATI : The ruling party and the opposition usually clash over an issue in the House, but today the scenario in the Assam Assembly was slightly different. Assembly Speaker Vishwajit Daimari used the word ‘extremist’ for agitated opposition members. The entire opposition was shattered and demanded that the word be removed from the Proceedings of the House, which the Speaker rejected in Daimari. He says that extremists are not unparliamentary words. It is not equivalent to words like terrorist or separatist. He wanted to establish his arguments by giving various examples, but the Opposition did not agree. Meanwhile, the Speaker also ordered suspension of 2 MLAs with the help of marshals.

The House was not allowed to function in the opposition, agitated by the Speaker’s attitude. As a result, the House had to be adjourned twice. Leader of opposition inside the House Devvrat While Saikia demanded that the word be removed from action, Akhil Gogoi appeared vocal outside the House. He told reporters that the Speaker’s attitude towards him is particularly harsh. He is not allowed to speak in the House. Later, in order to pacify all the angry MLAs, the Speaker was requested to withdraw the words of the militants from the Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Later, Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari withdrew the words of the extremists even if he did not say the wrong word. The Assembly resumed at 4.00 pm.
