Guwahathi: After the Assam-Mizoram dispute, the Assam-Nagaland border has now been disputed. According to the report, some Nagaland people were trying to build a bamboo church at Teteliguri in the Bejan police outpost area in Jorhat district of Assam. Which was stopped by the Assam police. The attempt has reportedly been foiled by the Assam Police Battalion on the Nagaland border. A police source said that after the policemen arrived at the spot, the local people told them to bring bamboo and other construction materials and start work to build a church.

Thereafter, senior officials visited the site and took stock of the situation. Sources also said that the two sides will meet on Monday on the issue. Which will discuss maintaining peace on the inter-state border. The indefinite economic blockade of Nagaland on NH-39 over alleged encroachment of Assam land continues today. Now, this dispute reached the Home Ministry. Nagaland Chief Minister Nefiu Rio spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah this morning on the dispute and demanded measures to resolve the deteriorating situation. On the other hand, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah.

He has accused several organisations including the Karbi Students Association (KSA), the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and the All Tai Ahom Students Union that the economic blockade imposed on Nagaland has led to a hue and cry for the essential commodities in all the north-eastern states. For the last six days, several organisations in Assam have been making economic hurdles against Nagaland. That is why all trucks carrying rice, dal, petrol, diesel, essential commodities are being blocked. As soon as this information was received by the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Manipur, Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed the Assam government to take necessary steps to solve the problem.

The two state officials will hold a high level meeting on November 25, sources said. Home Minister Amit Shah intervened and said that the two states should work together to find a solution. Shah has instructed the blockade organizations to end the situation. It is important to point out that further talks have also been proposed by the officials of both sides after a meeting to discuss the issue. Karbi Students Association (KSA) President Bijoy Bee said that government officials in Assam said that their Nagaland counterparts have assured to maintain status quo till the next proposal on the disputed area and requested the organizations to stop the blockade.

Earlier on Tuesday, a team led by Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Nagaland, made a joint spot visit with Deputy Commissioner Dipu (Assam) and other officials, after which a meeting took place. In Assam, several organizations in Karbi Anglong district had started an indefinite economic blockade of Nagaland from Tuesday citing alleged illegal encroachment by the neighbouring state. Led by the Karbi Students Association (KSA), the organizations blocked NH 39 from 8:00 am last Tuesday in the month. Several trucks carrying goods and other commercial vehicles are stranded due to the blockade. On the other hand, the tension between the two states has been continuing ever since Nagaland encroached into the disputed area of Assam and Nagaland.
