Kokrajhar killing: BTR chief handed over appointment letter to deceased family/Protest continues

Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration today handed over the appointment letter to the family member of Late Janak Brahma who was allegedly killed in a fake encounter in Kokrajhar on Saturday last even as protest continues in different parts of BTR demanding justice and high level inquiry into the killings of the two youths.
The chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Pramod Boro handed over the appointment letter to Sanjib Kumar Brahma, brother of late Janak Brahma in the Forest department. Jwngsar Mushahary family members will accept the appointment letter after a few days.
Talking to Reporters, BTR chief Pramod Boro said the appointment letter was handed over to the brother of Janak Brahma on compensation grounds. He said the government is taking necessary steps for the well being of the family members of the two deceased persons.
He also stressed the need of building an arms free society for permanent peace and harmony. He said the chief minister has already ordered a commissioner-level inquiry into the incident and those found guilty will be punished as per the law.
Meanwhile the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) along with other organisations like Tribal Sangha today carried out a protest demonstration in Kokrajhar demanding justice and a high level judicial inquiry into the incident.
Hundreds of students and locals participated in the demonstration at Bodofa Children Park in Kokrajhar. A memorandum was submitted to the chief minister through the Kokrajhar DC.
Participating in the protest demonstration, ABSU president Dipen Boro said such fake encounters will not be tolerated and guilty persons must be punished.
Janak Brahma and Jwngsar Mushahary were killed in an alleged fake encounter with police at Lungsung forest area in Kokrajhar district on Saturday. Additional Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar Surjit Singh Panesar had said that the two were cadres of the newly formed armed group United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) and were killed in an encounter inside Ultapani-Lungsung forest area.
The family members and the local villagers however alleged that the killing was nothing but a fake encounter by the police force. Family members and neighbours of Jwngsar Mushahary said he was not associated with any militant groups and had been killed in a fake encounter by the police.
The ULB denied that the two killed persons are its members.
The chief minister has directed Jayant Narlikar, commissioner, lower Assam division, to conduct the probe into the case. The order came after massive protests and reaction from various organisations over the killing terming it a “fake encounter”.
